so a challenge is a great way to remind ourselves of little (and big) things to appreciate
here's my note:

7 hours sleep + 20 minutes meditation + hydration + healthy foods + hugs + morning walk + fulfilling work + focus + lifting weights + 5 pages + evening walk + no news + no drama + no expectations = the magical pill for life
Happy Monday all! This is mine, on Gratitude today. It is the start of a new week, the end of a month and spring is here and most noteworthy I find myself on substack engaging in meaningful connections with so many wonderful people. So just starting the week with this. ππ½
Edit: Oops! I think I was supposed to copy the Note here. Most of mine are more succinct; not this one. Copy below:
Most of my life, when people have gotten all upset over political things, Iβve brushed it off as hyperbole and catastrophizing. Things seem genuinely different now, and I cycle between anger and hopelessness. In such a situation, it becomes more important than ever to remember to practice some of the basic insights of self-care, among them the practice of gratitude.
After all, as Epictetus said (loosely translated), βItβs not what happens to you but what you think about what happens to you that determines your experience.β Without diminishing the horror of what happens in the world, Iβm not sure things are any worse now than they have always been. Itβs just that, thanks to instant media (like, letβs face it, Substack), we can know more about what happens anywhere in the world almost immediately.
And since weβre wired to notice the negative more (survival mechanism), you have to consciously look for the things that actually are good. Thereβs lots of them out there. We just donβt see them so much. And the good things can seem soβ¦ mundane. In fact, Iβm going to start with that as my Monday Gratitude (and, yes, I know that when this posts itβs technically Tuesday).
Iβm grateful for an insight. Iβve realized that what I used to label as boredom is simply peace. Iβm grateful for the mundane. Iβm grateful, today, for having had an unexpectedly quiet time, an evening meal with my wife, an unhurried scenic drive afterward, a decision to blow off an online class (they will record it) in order to not rush that drive, along with a reminder to take three slow breaths and just enjoy the moment.
What are you grateful for today, not despite the challenges and difficulties and genuine bad news, but along with it?
Today Iβm grateful - for the usual stuff like healthy and happy kids and the freedom to work for myself - but on top of that, Iβm grateful for this amazing Substack community.
Love this Sara π

Love this, Sara! Thank you. Hereβs a note that speaks to gratitude.
In a world that chases the extraordinary:
wealth, influence, and success, noticing and embracing lifeβs simple pleasures is overlooked and dismissed.Β
But itβs in those ordinary moments, where joy is found.
Be grateful for simple pleasures and watch joy grow.
